The community-organized memorial will commemorate the 1,511 residents of the hospital/asylum who were buried at the cemetery including 24 WW1 Veterans and more than 12 Indigenous People. The memorial will take place at the cemetery itself (231 Evans) where we will honor these residents, most of whom came from northern Ontario, with traditional drumming, poetry, a military memorial and commit to supporting those struggling with mental health today. The event will last about 45 minutes.
