CFC Conversations: Black Excellence with Filmmaker Karen Chapman

Raised in a Guyanese family that nurtured her creativity, Chapman has developed a storytelling style that is both compassionate and courageous. Her work spans multiple mediums, with each project centered on powerful narratives that resonate deeply. ​A proud alumna of the Canadian Film Centre, Karen recently made waves with her debut feature film, Village Keeper, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Her work on this film has not only drawn critical acclaim but also earned her a nomination for the Directors Guild of Canada Award for “Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film.” In this event, Karen will share her journey as a multifaceted storyteller, her dedication to projects that inspire change, and the creative problem-solving skills that have shaped her diverse body of work.
