I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together by Maurice Vellekoop – By the Lake Book Club

Presented By: City of Toronto, Humber Polytechnic, Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together, by 2024 Toronto Book Award winner Maurice Vellekoop, is a graphic memoir tracing his journey from a queer boy in a strict Christian home to a renowned artist. Set in 1970s Toronto, it delves into family, faith, sexuality, and art’s transformative power, blending humor and poignancy. This event will be moderated by Chris Middleton. By the Lake Book Club hosts six Tuesday-night events from February to December with top Canadian authors and Humber Polytechnics alumni. Each in-person event features readings, discussions, Q&A, book signings, and ASL interpretation, while virtual sessions include live subtitles and audio access.
