Held, by 2024 Scotiabank Giller Prize winner Anne Michaels, is a luminous, fragmented novel about love, memory, and the reverberations of war across generations. Beginning on a First World War battlefield, the narrative moves through time and place to explore how desire and grief endure beyond a single lifetime. Michaels – renowned poet and author of Fugitive Pieces – weaves history and intimacy into a work of haunting beauty.
By the Lake Book Club hosts six Tuesday-night events from February to December with top Canadian authors and Humber Polytechnics alumni. Each in-person event features readings, discussions, Q&A, book signings and ASL interpretation, while virtual sessions include live subtitles and audio access.
