The program is offered to older adults 55+ and is offered in-person or online via zoom. Funding for this program provided by the Seniors Community Grant from the Province of Ontario. Workshop is held in person at St. Demetrius Apartment 123 La Rose Avenue and virtually via zoom.

Join Master Iconographer, Art Conservator, and Subdeacon Roumen Kirinkov and learn about:
• The origins and evolution of iconography, its geographic spread, icon veneration, distinguished styles, and who some of the most influential iconographers of all times are.
• The painting process for making a replica of an icon including choosing the right image to copy, and the icon technology
• Creating a new design of icons, and the importance of gaining an understanding of the theology of the icon, principles of iconography, concepts and compositions
• The unique characteristics of the icon, which sets the religious icon apart from other religious images and paintings
About Roumen Kirinkov
Roumen Kirinkov is a master iconographer, art conservator and subdeacon. He has been involved in major cultural heritage conservation and restoration projects across Canada such as the complete conservation and restoration of the interior decoration of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Ottawa, the restoration treatment of Alexander Scott Carter’s heraldic display in Great Hall, Hart House, University of Toronto and the conservation of the Chinese fresco-secco wall painting “ Paradise of Maitreya”, belonging to the Far Eastern Collection of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), and dating to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368).
