Artists in the Library: Animate with 16mm Film for Free!

Join artist Mia Buono and your community members for a unique drop-in workshop where you’ll animate by hand on 16mm film to create your own short stop-motion piece. Perfect for beginners, families, emerging artists, and anyone looking to explore hands-on, non-digital animation techniques.

Participants will be taught an array of direct animation techniques to scratch, paint, draw, and colour on their film strip, and receive pieces of black, clear, and scrap film to create their own 15 second mini animation. Completed filmstrips will be given to the instructor at the end of the session to be scanned into a vibrant moving animation, and screened together with all our work on November 14th! Finished animations will also be emailed to participants as a digital file after the workshop to share with family and friends.
