The program is offered to older adults 55+ and is offered in-person or online via zoom. Funding for this program provided by the Seniors Community Grant from the Province of Ontario. Workshop is held in person at St. Demetrius Apartment 123 La Rose Avenue and virtually via zoom.
This workshop by Amrita Mannil will explore the beautiful dance form of Bharatanatyam, one of the 8 Indian classical dances. It will include:
• An introduction to the dance form including its significance
• Sharing about the art of story telling
• A dance performance by Amrita who will be dressed in the traditional Bharatanatyam costume
• A crash course on some of the basic steps
About Amrita Mannil
Dancer, Choreographer and Teacher, Amrita Mannil is gifted and a highly talented dancer who has great command of the art form of Bharatanatyam. Amrita has trained under India’s eminent gurus Smt. Chitra Vinodh and Smt. Jayanthy Thyagarajan of Natyavedalaya, Bangalore. She continued her dance endeavour with Smt. Chitra Vinodh under the guidance of who she completed her KSEEB Bharatanatyam Senior dance exam. Originally from Bangalore, Amrita has recently made Canada her home.
Having over 500 odd performances to her credit, Amrita has had the privilege of performing at several prestigious dance festivals such as Guruvayur Temple, Iskcon Brahmotsav, Nadaneerajanam – Tirumala, Golden Temple Vellore, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kannada Cultural events, and Navaratri Festival at various temples. Deeply grounded in the vazhavoor style, Amrita has imbibed the pure and aesthetic concepts of Bharatanatyam to her students and has successfully trained them for various performances.
