Film Night: Reel Injun

Event Series (See All)

November 14 @ 7:00 pm 9:30 pm

Join Islington United Church for Film Night on November 14! On Friday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Islington United Church (25 Burnhamthorpe Road, Etobicoke), the Right Relations Circle and the Anti-Racism Working Group will co-sponsor the movie Reel Injun, by Cree Canadian filmmaker Neil Diamond. The film explores the portrayal of Indigenous peoples in Hollywood cinema and the stereotypical images that continue to reverberate on our collective discourse. Jesse Wente, well-known for two decades as a columnist at CBC Radio’s Metro Morning and an award-winning author of the National Bestseller Unreconciled: Truth and Indigenous Resistance, will moderate the evening, and the Very Rev. Carmen Lansdowne, former Moderator of the United Church of Canada, will join us to welcome Jesse that night. A Novel Spot bookstore will be on hand with Jesse’s books for purchase, including his new children’s book Danger Eagle that will launch in November.
