“Myroslav Skoryk”
Seminar in Ukrainian and English
—
In his youth, Myroslav Skoryk was called an “intelligent brawler”. He was fond of sports and did not dream of music. But in the end, Myroslav Skoryk became the most famous Ukrainian composer in the world…
• Those brought up in the 60s know his famous pop songs: the blues-tango “Намалюй мені ніч (Draw Me a Night)” or the first twist in the USSR “Не топчіть конвалій (Don’t Trample the Lily-of-the-Valley”.
• Skoryk created the music for the extremely influential film “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (Тіні забутих предків)”.
• His opera “Moses” is the only work in Ukraine that received the blessing of Pope John Paul II
• Skoryk’s legendary “Melody in A Minor” is Ukraine’s spiritual anthem.
Any work by Myroslav Skoryk fascinates, first of all, with its melodic sound. Almost all musical genres are represented in the composer’s work. He had many honors and high positions bestowed upon him during his life, however he considered the greatest reward to be hearing his own works performed by street musicians. Come join us to enjoy the music of Myroslav Skoryk and get to know this maestro’s body of work.
