The program is offered to older adults 55+ and is offered in-person or online via zoom. Funding for this program provided by the Seniors Community Grant from the Province of Ontario. Workshop is held in person at St. Demetrius Apartment 123 La Rose Avenue and virtually via zoom.

Flamenco is an integrated form of dancing, singing and music. It is a bold and elegant expression of deep and powerful feelings. Flamenco was declared UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010 and was named as a World Heritage Treasure.
Valerie Scanura is a graduate of the National Ballet School’s prestigious teacher training program and taught ballet for several years before flamenco became her main love. Valerie has studied flamenco with many great artists such as Merche Esmeralda, Ciro, Manolete, El Guito, Paco Romero, Maria Magdalena, Carmela Greco, Alejandro Granados, Yolanda Heredia and others too numerous to mention. Since 1992 she has been travelling to “the heartbeat of Flamenco”,i.e. Andalusia in Southern Spain, every year, where she participates in various workshops and continues to add to her creativity and inspiration as both a teacher and a dancer. Valerie has guided many dancers to professional careers in Spanish dance and flamenco. Roger Scannura Flamenco Guitarist/Composer, Disciple of Paco De Lucia, Course Director at York University. Roger is an internationally recognized flamenco guitarist and a leading exponent of Nuevo Flamenco. He has been immersed in music since early childhood and mastered the techniques and nuances of Flamenco guitar while in Spain for 12 years under the auspices of Pepe Habichuela and other gypsy masters. Roger with his music and dance ensemble has performed for Prime ministers, Dignitaries as well as an assortment of celebrities including Russell Crowe and Sting.
