I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Nadia and I am a member of the Warren Park community. I’m working with a group of individuals who are committed to community safety and passionate about civic engagement. We’re working on an Urban Planning Design competition to re-design the infamous St. Mark’s Hill in the west end of Toronto; one of the main roadways providing access to the Humber River trails and major city conservation systems like Magwood Park and Etienne Brule Park.
The St. Mark’s Hill roadway has been a concern for the community for a while now, as it is steep and dangerous, and the local government has been slow to act on the community’s concerns. That’s why we are taking matters into our own hands, and we’re inviting the city’s youth to come up with innovative solutions to re-design the hill, and make it safer for everyone.
We are inviting submissions from students, designers, and anyone with a passion for civic engagement. We’ve already partnered with local schools and organizations to amplify the challenge amongst the city’s youth. Our submissions will be judged in the coming months, and we’re excited to see what the community can come up with for this roadway that is used by so many Torontonians.
