DESCRIPTION:Workshop Series with Maksym Lozovyi\, award-winning opera singer and soloist of the Kherson opera\, and Journalist Iryna Yevstafieva.\nJoin us for a fascinating musical journey\, showcasing some of the finest Ukrainian voices of opera singing from 19th and 20th centuries until today! \nThe program is offered to older adults 55+ and is held virtually via Zoom or in person at 123 La Rose Ave.  \n• Wednesday\, January 31 @ 2PM\nDirectly from Kherson\, meet Kherson Opera’s soloist Maksym Lozovyi! A laureate of the prestigious Open International Auditions competition in Italy\, Maksym is a favourite of Kherson’s public. His solo concerts are always sold out\, and music critics spare no compliments in their reviews\, calling his voice a golden voice of unique beauty and an exceptional velvety-smooth baritone. In this workshop\, you will hear excerpts from Maksym Lozovyi’s performances\, see unique photos of Kherson Opera House from behind the scenes. You will also learn about Maksym’s life and that of his colleagues from the Kherson opera during the Russian occupation\, and today when Kherson continues to be under threat. Kherson was last bombed just about a few weeks ago. \n•  Wednesday February 7 & 21 @ 2PM\nDiscover the life stories of some of the most remarkable Ukrainian opera singers of the 19th and 20th centuries\, and their influence on the European musical stage\, as well as their experiences amid the turbulence of Ukrainian history. Uncover who held the title of the world’s best tenor in the 19th century and the “Wagnerian prima donna” of the 20th century\, and whom the Soviet regime\, despite disliking him couldn’t deny his request to have a museum\, dedicated to prominent Ukrainians\, a film producer and a poet. Last but not least\, you will learn who is known worldwide as the Ukrainian nightingale.
