DESCRIPTION:YOUtopia/OURtopia is an artistic exploration of the spirit of Dentonia Park and how parks offer an example of peaceful co-existence.   \nIn a five-day residency\, Shadowland artists will run daily workshops that examine how public green spaces create a shared sense of belonging. With a focus on history\, nature\, Indigenous teachings and the comings and goings\, community members are invited to contribute to what makes Dentonia Park distinct. All ages are welcome to participate in visual\, musical\, and performing arts activities that will culminate in collective celebratory performance on the final day.   \nJoin our journey to discover the untold secrets of the park. Together we will listen to the trees and hear the stories they tell. We will dance on the grass to make it grow. We will ask the birds and insects for their songs. With an Indigenous nature guide we will reveal the hidden plants and wildlife. We will celebrate being together in a vibrant shared space.

SUMMARY:Arts in the Parks: Celebrate Japan in Scarborough!
DESCRIPTION:Nagata Shachu will present “Celebrate Japan in Scarborough!”\, including a 30-minute hands-on Japanese taiko drum/movement workshop for all ages\, followed by an exciting 60-minute taiko concert\, and a 10-minute Q&A session. The program will take place in four Scarborough park locations in July and August. In addition to our thunderous taiko drums\, the concerts will feature Japanese bamboo and a variety of traditional percussion instruments. Between songs\, members of the ensemble will introduce the pieces\, as well as give insight into our instruments and costumes\, Japanese culture\, and our artistic practice. \n\nPlease bring a lawn chair or blanket.  \n\nPlease note dates and times are subject to change. I’ve always done this for fun. Why? Because I love seeing people get up there and challenge themselves and express themselves and have fun. That’s everything to me. It’s why I do it. The moment I forget why I’ll stop. I remember being terrified to try karaoke as a teenager and trying to work through the fear.  I love the regulars and I love encouraging them.
