DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the Tibetan practice of “kora”\, a walk of reflection and meditation\, Walking the Kora transforms the tradition into a walking performance. Guided by young people\, audiences move through a natural landscape\, coming across a series of short encounters and demonstrations that offer light\, yet meaningful entry points into exploring concepts of emptiness\, mindfulness and meditation\, inviting audiences to reflect on how these concepts may resonate within everyday life. Toronto is home to one of the largest Tibetan populations outside of Asia\, making it a meaningful place to share this centuries old tradition\, led by the next generation of Tibetan youth. \nThis performance uses a wireless audio system\, audiences receive personal headsets that deliver live sound throughout the walk\, creating an intimate and immersive experience. Due to limited headset availability\, advance registration is required. DESCRIPTION:In our final concert of the season\, ECC turns the spotlight on contemporary women composers featuring local Canadian and internationally recognized artists\, including ECC’s own Lauren Halász and Jade Lotter. \nThis vibrant and diverse program centers on The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass by Carol Barnett\, with libretto by Marisha Chamberlain (2006). This dynamic work blends the traditional form of the mass with the energy and spirit of bluegrass\, featuring an instrumental ensemble of fiddle\, banjo\, mandolin\, guitar\, and bass.\nThe program includes works by distinguished Canadian composers Eleanor Daley and Ruth Watson Henderson\, whose contributions have shaped the country’s choral landscape. We conclude the evening with the spirited When I Become an Old Woman by Sherry Blevins—a joyful finale to a richly varied program.
