SUMMARY:Breath and Core Strength (All Levels) Classes for Adults +55 At St. Demetrius
DESCRIPTION:Come join new friends in the Stay Connected Program in our weekly exercises classes! The program is offered to older adults 55+ and is held in person at 123 La Rose Avenue\, or virtually via Zoom. Learn More: www.stdemetrius.ca/community-programs\n—\nCore strength is the ability of the muscles in your trunk—including your abdomen\, back\, and pelvis—to stabilize your spine and pelvis\, which is crucial for balance and good posture. They support your spine and can help protect you from injuries such as those that lead to back pain.\nCore exercises train the muscles of your torso to work in in coordination with the breath and in overall harmony. This type of training leads to better balance and steadiness. Whether you are lifting\, bending\, or seated to watch your favorite show\, your core muscles enable you to perform everyday activities with greater ease.\nThis class format is accessible to all\, whether you wish to work while seated or standing. We will utilize breath patterns and range of movement exercises to strengthen and mobilize the entire core body.\nBreath and Core Strength will leave you feeling solid and ready to take on your day with greater core stability.\n—\nTo register for classes or for more information please call 647-725-0877 or community@stdemetrius.ca

SUMMARY:WORLD BELOVED: A CELEBRATION OF WOMEN COMPOSERS
DESCRIPTION:In our final concert of the season\, ECC turns the spotlight on contemporary women composers featuring local Canadian and internationally recognized artists\, including ECC’s own Lauren Halász and Jade Lotter. \nThis vibrant and diverse program centers on The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass by Carol Barnett\, with libretto by Marisha Chamberlain (2006). This dynamic work blends the traditional form of the mass with the energy and spirit of bluegrass\, featuring an instrumental ensemble of fiddle\, banjo\, mandolin\, guitar\, and bass.\nThe program includes works by distinguished Canadian composers Eleanor Daley and Ruth Watson Henderson\, whose contributions have shaped the country’s choral landscape. We conclude the evening with the spirited When I Become an Old Woman by Sherry Blevins—a joyful finale to a richly varied program.
