SUMMARY:Breaking and Entering by Don Gillmor – By the Lake Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: City of Toronto\, Humber College and Toronto International Festival of Authors\n\nJoin Don Gillmor for a conversation about his new book Breaking and Entering. A messy family-life\, the hottest Toronto summer on record\, a mid-life crisis and a google search\, all lead Bea into the world of amateur lock-picking. Gillmor’s novel breaks into the existential angst sometimes felt by the sandwich generation\, those caring for both elderly parents and their own children.\n\nBy the Lake Book Club offers six Tuesday-night events\, between February and December featuring leading Canadian authors in conversation with Humber College graduates and alumni. Each in-person event includes a reading\, discussion\, audience Q&A\, book-signing and American sign language interpretation. Virtual events are subtitled live and provide online viewing and audio.\n\nRegistration begins on January 4\, 2024 at 10 a.m. Phone lines are open during business hours for more information and tickets.\n\nReservations\nPhone: (416) 338-7255\n\nMore Information\nWebsite: www.toronto.ca\nEmail: assembly@toronto.ca\nPhone: (416) 338-7255

SUMMARY:BLESSED - EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS BY OLENA ILLICHOVA AND VOLODYMYR ILLICHOV
DESCRIPTION:Have you noticed how prolonged exposure of the human eye to the sun renders everything washed out and colourless? Similarly\, we\, who once basked in the beauty of our homeland\, Ukraine\, now look upon her destruction with sadness and trepidation. The blue skies over shimmering golden fields have become overcast and gloomy. The emerald surface of the sea is no longer pleases the eye. Only the poppies continue to glow a fiery red\, fiercely defending their vibrant hue\, a testament to their enduring spirit. The yearning to return to one’s homeland is akin to childhood memories when every little thing was the precious embodiment of the imagination. Even the smallest fragment of a past life evokes an intense longing for those happier times.\nThe Shevchenko Museum is thrilled to open BLESSED – an exhibition of paintings by artists Olena Illichova and Volodymyr Illichov\, formerly of Odesa\, Ukraine – on December 7\, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the Museum Gallery at 1604 Bloor Street West\, Toronto\, Ontario.\nOlena Illichova’s art is a masterful showcase of traditional realism\, behind which\, lies a fascinating world imbued with profound emotions\, sharp insights\, and meticulous observation. Her paintings transcend mere depiction\, transporting one’s objective reality into the spiritual realm. Every detail in her work seems to be vividly coloured by the imagination.\nVolodymyr Illichov is a versatile artist whose work spans painting\, drawing\, and sculpture. His exploration of urban environments is significantly influenced by his background in architecture. With years of experience and boundless imagination\, Volodymyr Illichov has exhibited both on the domestic and international stage and he continues to find new and intriguing ways to create art that is both abstract and imaginative.\nThe exhibition will run until January 15\, 2025. Gallery hours are Mon – Wed\, Fri: 10 am – 4 pm\, Thurs: 12 – 7 pm\, and weekends by appointment. To book a private tour or enquire about purchasing\, please email us at shevchenkomuseum@bellnet.ca or call 416-534-8662.\nAdmission to the December 7th opening reception is free. Please register for this event at: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/blessed-an-exhibition-of-art-by-olena-illichova-and-volodymyr-illichov-tickets-1083590260639?aff=oddtdtcreator\nThe Shevchenko Museum greatly appreciates the support of the Olzhych Foundation in the creation and printing of advertising materials for this exhibition.\n \nW: www.shevchenko.ca\nFB: shevchenkomuseum\nI: shevchenkomuseum\nE: shevchenkomuseum@bellnet.ca\nT: 416-534-8662

SUMMARY:How about Friday Night\, Karaoke\, Music\, Comic Books?
DESCRIPTION:Offbeat\, fun\, silly\, random karaoke. And sometimes geeky little prizes? Free. Join us Friday 9:30pm to 2:00 am. Oh. We don’t take it too seriously. We just have a good time. I’ve always done this for fun. Why? Because I love seeing people get up there and challenge themselves and express themselves and have fun. That’s everything to me. It’s why I do it. The moment I forget why I’ll stop. I remember being terrified to try karaoke as a teenager and trying to work through the fear. I love the regulars and I love encouraging them. The moment it feels like work I’ll stop 🙂 Classic rock\, pop\, country\, rock n roll\, R&B\, Showtunes\, try something fun.
