DESCRIPTION:YOU CAN PAINT – For better Health -Mental Body Health\nWhy do Reverse Glass Painting?\nMost of us enjoyed drawing\, doodling or painting with colorful paints when we were small\, before somebody seeded in our mind the idea that we are not too good at art. Perhaps we have tried a few more times before totally giving up and deciding that an artistic career is not for us in this lifetime. But by turning away from that gift of creative impulse we’ve abandoned the most fun and emotionally satisfying activity we as humans can experience. Mark making on a sheet of paper or laying a brush stroke across a canvas is so pleasant it is used as a therapy even if you don’t have any talent you’re willing to acknowledge. It is not only for fun\, it is at its very core an activity of visual expression that is uplifting\, balancing and healing to our emotional and\, yes\, physical being also. Countless studies have proved the benefits of art expressions\, but for most people the inner fear that they can’t draw still holds them back.\nTHAT’S WHY we start our personal renaissance with Reverse Glass Painting. The transparency of the glass allows us to trace the lines of the drawing underneath and then color in with wonderful sparkles and bright paints. Glass is a very forgiving surface – you can erase\, scratch or just wash the parts that you don’t like\, you can even wash it all off and start again. The light that comes through the glass bounces off the paint particles so the colors look much brighter than when laid flat on a canvas. As you practice your hand copying the underlying drawing the confidence starts to build. First we plan how to build up layers on the glass. Then we practice applying markers and acrylic paint. Then we sparkle fun with glitter\, luminescent paint and metal leaf applications. Students almost immediately venture into experimenting with their own ideas – it is easy to be confident when you know you can reverse a few steps back. The intermediate results are wonderfully satisfying at every step of the process. The final work is stunning!

DESCRIPTION:Inspired by a combination of ballet barre technique\, standing Pilates repertoire\, rehabilitative exercises\, and aerobics\, this low impact workout will get you dancing along to the beat of classic songs. We will use a chair as a “barre” to add stability and support to our workout\, while engaging in movements focused on targeting specific muscle groups\, training our balance\, and improving our posture. The class will slowly build up from warm ups to more complex sequences to a nice cool down\, helping you work not just your physical and cardiovascular endurance\, but also keep your memory sharp. SUMMARY:Fireworks 2023 by FUSION: Clay & Glass Ontario
DESCRIPTION:FUSION is an organization dedicated to clay and glass artists at all stages of their career. Every year\, FUSION plans exhibitions\, organizes hands-on workshops\, offers awards and scholarships and creates amazing opportunities to engage with\, connect and support the community.\n\nThe tradition of the FIREWORKS exhibitions started 40 years ago. Held every two years\, FIREWORKS has come to symbolize the best in contemporary clay and glass by FUSION members and is displayed in galleries throughout Ontario.\nFUSION is pleased to welcome Owen Johnson and Marc Egan as this year’s jurors.\n\nFor the first time\, visual artists are invited to participate in the Neilson Park Creative Centre exhibition from February 28 – March 19\, 2023. Visual art pieces for the Neilson Park Creative Centre will be curated by a FUSION committee led by Adeline La.\n\nFollowing the exhibition at Neilson Park Creative Centre\, the show of clay and glass works will travel to The Gardiner Shop\, The Art Gallery of Burlington and the Rails End Gallery.

SUMMARY:Free Barre Fitness Classes for Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by a combination of ballet barre technique\, standing Pilates repertoire\, rehabilitative exercises\, and aerobics\, this low impact workout will get you dancing along to the beat of classic songs. We will use a chair as a “barre” to add stability and support to our workout\, while engaging in movements focused on targeting specific muscle groups\, training our balance\, and improving our posture. The class will slowly build up from warm ups to more complex sequences to a nice cool down\, helping you work not just your physical and cardiovascular endurance\, but also keep your memory sharp. And hey\, you can even play “Name That Tune” or sing along when your body needs a break! \n\n\n\nClasses run every Tuesday at 10am – 11 am in-person and virtually. \n\n\n\nThe program is offered to older adults 55+ and is offered in-person or online via zoom.
