DESCRIPTION:The program is offered to older adults 55+ and is offered in-person or online via zoom. Funding for this program provided by the Seniors Community Grant from the Province of Ontario. Workshop is held in person at St. Demetrius Apartment 123 La Rose Avenue and virtually via zoom. \nEssential oils are concentrated plant extracts that are often used for their therapeutic properties. They are extracted from various parts of plants\, including leaves\, flowers\, stems\, and roots.\nIn this class\, we will cover the basics of essential oils\, including their benefits\, how to use them safely\, and popular oils and their uses. We’ll also discuss some common methods of application\, such as diffusion\, topical application\, and inhalation.\nBy the end of this class\, you’ll have a better understanding of essential oils and how they can benefit you in various way. \nAbout Denise Ho:\nAfter taking classes for more than 20 years\, Denise began a daily practice when she participated in an Energy Exchange program. In the last 6 years\, she has become truly dedicated to her practice after trying a Mysore class for the first time. She completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training at the YogaSpace in 2013. Her paintings have been accepted into many juried shows\, and she has won numerous awards for her work. Her paintings hang in private collections in Canada\, England\, Wales and the United States. \nThe subjects of her paintings are varied and are drawn from her travels and personal experiences. Although she paints primarily in watercolour\, she has recently ventured into the world of pastel and collage. Her style is impressionistic\, but is constantly evolving. We’re recreating what it was like in a cinema with cartoons\, a serial chapter\, newsreels and human interest stories in addition to the feature film. What’s more\, each of the shorts is somehow involved with a “lost” theme. The rare cartoon was never originally released (and it comes from the founder of a very famous studio)\, the serial chapter was once lost\, the scenes are from a lost US community\, newreels & interest stories to astound you.\nBut we’re all here for The Gold Diggers–once lost for close to a century\, it was recently found in the UK in pristine condition and you’ll be the 1st Canadian audience to see it in 100 years. A prestige picture from Warner Bros. showcased Hope Hampton & Louise Fazenda in feature roles–and it ticks all the boxes for flapper fun-a jazz age mix of parties\, costumes\, backstage shenanigans\, cocktails –you name it\, it has it. While the film is not complete\, all the story is there and they have bridging intertitles for the missing scenes.\nSynopsis-“Stephen refuses to allow his nephew to marry Violet\, a chorus girl\, as he judges all chorus girls are “gold diggers” and after money. Jerry\, Violet’s friend\, decides to use reverse psychology and vamps Stephen to show him what real gold digging really is and to show that Violet in contrast is as unselfish and loving as she appears. However\, things go very off script when Jerry falls hard for Stephen.\nFavourite Intertitle “They’re just good\, honest\, hardworking girls. DESCRIPTION:YOU CAN PAINT – For better Health -Mental Body Health\nWhy do Reverse Glass Painting?\nMost of us enjoyed drawing\, doodling or painting with colorful paints when we were small\, before somebody seeded in our mind the idea that we are not too good at art. Perhaps we have tried a few more times before totally giving up and deciding that an artistic career is not for us in this lifetime. But by turning away from that gift of creative impulse we’ve abandoned the most fun and emotionally satisfying activity we as humans can experience. Mark making on a sheet of paper or laying a brush stroke across a canvas is so pleasant it is used as a therapy even if you don’t have any talent you’re willing to acknowledge. It is not only for fun\, it is at its very core an activity of visual expression that is uplifting\, balancing and healing to our emotional and\, yes\, physical being also. Countless studies have proved the benefits of art expressions\, but for most people the inner fear that they can’t draw still holds them back.\nTHAT’S WHY we start our personal renaissance with Reverse Glass Painting. The transparency of the glass allows us to trace the lines of the drawing underneath and then color in with wonderful sparkles and bright paints. Glass is a very forgiving surface – you can erase\, scratch or just wash the parts that you don’t like\, you can even wash it all off and start again. The light that comes through the glass bounces off the paint particles so the colors look much brighter than when laid flat on a canvas. As you practice your hand copying the underlying drawing the confidence starts to build. First we plan how to build up layers on the glass. Then we practice applying markers and acrylic paint. Then we sparkle fun with glitter\, luminescent paint and metal leaf applications. Students almost immediately venture into experimenting with their own ideas – it is easy to be confident when you know you can reverse a few steps back. The intermediate results are wonderfully satisfying at every step of the process. The final work is stunning!
