Multi award-winning cellist Stéphane Tétreault presents an intriguing program that blends cello and bandoneon\, joined by bandoneonist Denis Plante and pianist Chloé Dumoulin.\n\nTétreault and Plante will perform several works from their Strativatango project which explores the world of tango with unmatched passion and virtuosity. The repertoire consists of Argentine tango classics as well as works specially composed for their unique duo. The project recently won “Concert of the Year\, World Music” at Quebec’s Prix Opus. \n\nFrom Johann Sebastian Bach to Astor Piazzolla to Plante’s own works\, this diverse program explores the ear-tickling possibilities of this exotic instrumental partnership.\n\nJoin us at 12:15pm for our Tuning Your Mind pre-concert talk: Artistic Director Amy Hillis announces the lineup for the 2026-27 Music in the Afternoon season! DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, March 5\, the VC2 Cello Duo will shake up the Music in the Afternoon concert season with an animated presentation featuring fresh takes on favourite works by Bach and Beethoven\, alongside lively new works.\n\nSeveral of these captivating new works were written especially for the duo by Canadian composers Andrew Staniland\, Fjóla Evans\, and Dinuk Wijeratne\, and the program will feature a world premiere by Matt Brubeck. Amy Hillis\, WMCT’s new artistic director\, will join them on violin for several of these works\, including an arrangement of Beethoven’s String Trio No. 1 in E-flat Major\, Op. 3. \n\n“…a couple of badasses.” – Ottawa Citizen\n\nArrive at 12:15 for our free Tuning Your Mind lecture “Music and Memories with a Side of Cellos” by Emma Schmiedecke.
